When to call 911

911 is the service that is addressed to everybody in US states when there is an emergency. If you don’t know what stands for an emergency, then you will find bellow some situation when is best if you call 911.

Usually when you have a bad medical condition, it is better that you call 911. If you have the following symptoms or if somebody next to you has them, like chest pain when it means that you are probably dealing with a heart attack, confusion which means that there might be something wrong with the brain as a cause of other problem like for example epilepsy, drug overdose, shortness of breath, coma or a victim that is not responding, uncontrolled nosebleed, or any other medical condition that you are unable to control and that requires a fast intervention. In all these cases is better to call 911 because, as soon as the number is dialed and an operator responds, the address of the number is registered, which means that even if you are then unable to talk to the operator they will send a patrol to check the address and if you do find the strength to talk to the operator, this will be the best person to get the fastest intervention. Calling your family will only be a lost time before having the needed help; also calling your physician is not the best option because first he/she might not be available or not answering and secondly because the advice from them is to call 911.

The second reason for calling 911 apart from a bad medical condition is when you feel that your house or your working place is threatened by something or somebody. If you hear suspicious sounds or see suspicious figures round your house it is best that you immediately call 911. Burglars are usually caring weapons, which is an absolute danger.

Whenever you are a witness of an accident or a fight street, don’t hesitate in calling 911. In these situations most people are afraid to call because they think than they will need to clarify the situation if it was not a 911 emergency. Some are just thinking that someone else will do the call. No matter is there is also other people calling if you are a witness it is your moral duty to make the phone call, because you might face the same situation and you would like as many people as possible to call 911. After all how sure are you that someone else will do it?

Whenever you are in a critical situation 911 is always the best option before calling anyone else; and this is because your call is recorded together with the address that you are calling from, if this is not a mobile phone, and the operators can decide according to the details that you are offering what is the gravity of the situation and they will know exactly who to direct to the place and what would be the amount of force required to be present at the scene.
